Honestly, folks, we're not doing anyone any favors by packaging a simplistic and largely false psychological analysis into the term for something so dangerous. In my view, 'homophobia,' like any other cultural content, is both arbitrary and overdetermined- arbitrary because the only real 'reason' for its reproduction is its prior existence, overdetermined because it is accompanied by a wide variety of motivations, images, narratives, etc. to assist the victims of the reproduction process in implementing it on themselves.
